Horizontal Directional Drilling Good Practices Guidelines - 2008 (3rd Edition)

The Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) industry has released the third edition of its highly anticipated HDD Good Practices Guidelines Manual, which is now available through NASTT. Prepared by HDD industry experts, the Guidelines manual has served as the industry standard for contractors, engineers and owners in completing efficient, effective and safe HDD installations and in training operators and supervisory personnel. The latest version includes a new chapter on design, and other sections have been updated to include new developments in technologies. NASTT is a member of the HDD Consortium, which first published the Guidelines manual in 2001. Other consortium members include: the Directional Crossing Contractors Association (DCCA); Distribution Contractors Association (DCA); Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM); National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA); and the Power and Communications Contractors Association (PCCA). Dr. David Bennett and Dr. Samuel Ariaratnam are co-authors of the revision. They, along with Casey Como, were the principal authors of the original HDD Guidelines. Topics covered include: HDD Applications and Processes; Equipment and Materials; Design; Bore Planning; Jobsite Safety; and Troubleshooting and Mitigation. The manual is available in a soft-cover book (279 pages) and CD-ROM.

Pipe Bursting Good Practices Manual

Pipe Bursting is defined as the replacement of the host, or original pipe by fragmenting the existing conduit and installing the product or new pipe in its place. This construction technique is recognized as one of the only methods of trenchless rehabilitation that can replace an existing line with a completely new pipe, providing a total pipe replacement. Additionally, pipe bursting allows for the replacement of existing pipe with a new line of equal or larger diameter, to maintain or increase flow capabilities. The Pipe Bursting Good Practices Guidelines was developed as a supplement to the NASTT Pipe Bursting training course. The Guidelines were authored by Dr. Samuel T. Ariartnam, Dr. R. David Bennett and Salam Khan in conjunction with TT Technologies, Earth Tool Company, Alberquerque Underground Inc. and Insituform Technologies.
