DALLAS – (Aug. 6, 2015) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently awarded the city of Cabot, Ark. $485,000 to install new wastewater treatment equipment. The upgrades will include 10,000 feet of wastewater piping that will help address sanitary sewer overflows.
Wastewater management encompasses a broad range of efforts that promote effective and responsible water use, treatment and disposal. Under the Clean Water Act, EPA oversees regulatory and voluntary programs that help manage the nation’s wastewater.
EPA traditionally awards federal funding to state and local municipalities for a wide variety of water quality projects including watershed protection and restoration, water and energy efficiency, wastewater reclamation, and traditional municipal wastewater treatment systems, including nonpoint source pollution control. The funds also support drinking water infrastructure, as well as drinking water plant operator training, and technical assistance.
