Alan is a trenchless technology professional with over 35 years of experience in trenchless engineering and construction utilizing Direct Steerable Pipe Thrusting (DSPT) and Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technologies. Alan is the President and a Partner for The Trenchless Company since 2020 and has over 12 years and 21 installations of DSPT construction experience. The DSPT crossings have ranged from 30-48-inches in diameter and lengths up to and including a North American record 5,000-foot shore approach in southern Texas. He also served as the Blue Ribbon Committee Chair for ASCE’s Manual of Practice 155 – Direct Steerable Pipe Thrusting, assisted in the preparation and preparation of the first DSPT Good Practices Guideline course and has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers for the ASCE Pipelines and NASTT NO-Dig Conferences.
He has his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas and is currently a licensed Professional Engineer in Oklahoma. Alan also has extensive experience with HDD’s, including over 2,000 HDD designs and/or construction installations ranging from 4-inch to 56-inches with lengths up to 12,000 feet. The HDD installations included shore approaches, water-to-water crossings, pilot hole intersects, mountain crossings, bundled crossings, and road bores. Having worked internationally and been part of numerous world record setting crossings associated with both DSPT and HDD, Alan has proven operational, financial, and budget management skills from front end feasibility/engineering through project construction completion.
