NASTT’s 2019 No-Dig Show Scholarships Available for Municipal & Public Utilities

The North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) — the leading association serving and promoting the North American trenchless industry – is pleased to announce municipal and public utility scholarship opportunities to attend NASTT’s 2019 No-Dig Show, March 17-21 in Chicago, Illinois.

In 2013, NASTT established the No-Dig Show Municipal & Public Utility Scholarship Award Program to provide education and training for employees of North American municipalities, government agencies and utility owners who have limited or no training funds due to economic challenges. In past years, over 100 applicants were awarded the scholarship annually.

“NASTT’s Municipal & Public Utility Scholarships have gone to more than 750 people since the inception of the scholarship program, and it’s building momentum even still,” said Cindy Preuss, 2019 No-Dig Show Program Chair and a Principal with HydroScience Engineers. “With an entire show dedicated to trenchless technology, this scholarship offers public agencies the opportunity to participate, and experience, the world of trenchless. It’s an opportunity perhaps entirely missed were it not for the award directly impacting an agency’s bottom line. Submit your application today – this is a chance public agency representatives shouldn’t pass up!”

Selected scholarship winners will be awarded Full Conference and Exhibition registration to NASTT’s 2019 No-Dig Show. Also available are one day conference registrations which include full access to all exhibits and technical paper sessions. Selected applicants will also be eligible to receive complimentary overnight accommodations for three nights at the host hotel. The scholarship applications are reviewed by a committee of NASTT volunteers and awarded based upon the supplied responses.

To apply for the scholarship, complete the application online at nastt.org/no-dig-show/municipal-scholarships on or before November 1, 2018. Applicants are not required to be NASTT members.

NASTT’s Municipal & Public Utility Scholarships program is sponsored by Benjamin Media, Inc, award-winning publisher of the leading underground construction magazine, Trenchless Technology.

4,180 feet of Slip Lining 32-inch HDPE Completed in One Pull

Long Pull Avoids Draining Major Wetland

Sliplining is completed by installing a smaller, HDPE pipe into a larger host pipe, grouting the annular space between the two pipes, and sealing the ends. The trenchless method is generally a cost-effective rehabilitation method to replace water and sewer force mains.

The original design was to drain the entire wetland that had formed since the original construction of the 36-inch water main and split the slip lining into multiple sections. However, Murphy Pipelines designed and sliplined the entire length in one pull allowing the wetland to remain untouched.

Powell River, BC located in inaccessible area requiring pipe, equipment and workers reach only by ferries.

Wellpoints set up at insertion pit.

Pull head fused on. Long sections of HDPE pipe staged on old mining road.

Pulling winch set up ready to start sliplining.

HammerHead® Trenchless Unveils New Purpose-built CIPP Trailer

LAKE MILLS, Wisc. – HammerHead® Trenchless, a Charles Machine Works company, has introduced a new, purpose-built trailer for cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) applications that gives installers a uniquely versatile and efficient workstation suited to almost any job they encounter. The LT-20PRO features a modular design with all storage, electrical power and air supply needed for a wide range of lateral lining tasks. The configuration is customizable, allowing the customer to tailor it to their specific needs and avoid duplication of existing equipment.

The 20-foot-long trailer’s modular design not only maintains an efficient workspace during installations but keeps all components secure and at-the-ready while traveling from job to job.

On more restrictive job sites, all equipment in the LT-20PRO can be unmounted for easy relocation. “Our trailer’s modular design accommodates the widest range of environments, difficult site conditions and logistics,” said Matt Gabrielse, HammerHead product manager.

“Versatility was key in creating these trailers for our customers,” Gabrielse said, explaining that ideally all jobs could be completed from right inside a contractor’s trailer. “But in cases where it is necessary to work from a roof or inside a large building, our rig allows key components to be easily removed from the trailer to work remotely.”

Each trailer can be outfitted with the desired inversion drum size, curing equipment, reinstatement and drain cleaning tools to meet each customer’s individual needs.

HammerHead LT-20PRO CIPP trailers are also available ready-made for immediate sale and delivery. All LT-20PRO base models feature as standard

  • Insulated trailer walls and ceiling and a roof-mounted air conditioner
  • 13,000-watt generator with external slide-out
  • Roller bed with wall mount for the wet out table
  • 30-gallon, wall-mounted air compressor
  • External and internal air connections and electrical outlets
  • Unique new HammerHead liner vacuum system for ease in vacuum-prepping liner.

The trailer’s modular configuration optimizes use of space and leaves ample room for storage. Storage features include

  • Upper and lower storage cabinets
  • Lower resin storage cabinet
  • Cleaning supply cabinet
  • Tool boxes
  • A tongue-mounted, lockable storage box
  • Custom inversion hose rack
  • Wall hooks to hold liner and calibration tubes.
