(1) A chemical substance or combination of substances which, when present in the environment, prevents or reduces corrosion without significant reaction with the components of the environment. (2) A substance which sharply reduces corrosion, when added to water, acid, or other liquid in small amounts; also, a chemical additive that delays the chemical reaction in epoxy resin systems.
