SUMMARY:Northwest Technical Luncheon – Edmonton, AB
DESCRIPTION:\nDate: Thursday, March 27\nTime: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM\nLocation: University Club of the University of Alberta 11435 Saskatchewan Dr, Edmonton, AB T6G 2G9\nCost: FREE for Members | $20 for Non-Members**\n \nMicrotunneling is technically challenging to design and execute due to a variety of physical, regulatory and technical constraints. The contractors and consultants in this field are the experts at this and are capable of addressing these issues. However, one thing that may be overlooked in the design and execution phases, or in the contract documents, are the Owner’s explicit and implicit needs. This could include considerations for O&M activities, understanding how construction activities must be executed to protect the Owner’s brand and the impact to the Owner’s other internal and external stakeholders. Being aware of these needs, and seeking clarifications with the Owner, will allow contractors and consultants to be able to make informed and early decisions to make minor changes which will improve the success of the project, and help prevent required changes when identified later in the process. In this presentation, we will briefly cover some of these implicit Owner needs.\n\nPresenter: Alex Mather Alex Mather, EPCOR\nAlex Mather Alex Mather is a project manager with EPCOR Water Services with over 20 years of experience in design development and construction of municipal infrastructure. Alex joined EPCOR in 2019 and has managed several projects involving trenchless construction, including microtunneling. As an Owner’s Representative in projects, he takes pride in coordinating and facilitating the identification and management of the stakeholders, both internal and external to the project and EPCOR, as a way to improve the outcomes of his projects.
